ANNISQUAM, MA | IN-PROGRESS | RESIDENTIAL
A house that precisely frames paired thermal and visual experiences of ocean, forest, and ledge. Meso House sits between a key slot ocean view, a tree dappled site, and a figural ledge, woven together by a thermal sauna and bathing sequence. Looking to the filmic framing of Yasujiro Ozu, an enfilade of living spaces tilt and telescope out towards the ocean view. This organizing axis is defined and intersected by concrete piers that
extend to the sides, in turn framing spaces of thermal and visual transition to the wooded site on one hand and a ledge-lined horizon on the other. Within the wooded site, a sauna, cold plunge, mist, and pool, are arranged about a granite formation to encourage basking on its thermal mass. Visual and thermal experience, each coupled to the other, seek to facilitate a fully embodied relationship to site at the scale of both skin and sight.
